MX Series

Universal Routing Platform — Built for Carrier Networks

The Juniper MX Series is the gold standard for carrier-grade routing. Built on the proprietary Trio chipset, MX routers perform hardware-accelerated routing, NAT, MPLS label switching, and firewall operations simultaneously at line rate — without CPU bottlenecks that plague competing platforms. Every major Philippine telco and global Tier 1 carrier runs MX.

Common Use Cases

ISP edge and core routing
BGP full-table peering with upstream providers
Carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT) for subscriber management
MPLS VPN for enterprise managed services
Internet Exchange point peering
DDoS mitigation with BGP FlowSpec

Key Technologies Explained

Trio Chipset

Juniper's proprietary forwarding engine. Performs routing, NAT, MPLS, and ACLs simultaneously at line rate — no performance penalty when enabling services. Unlike merchant silicon, Trio was designed specifically for service provider-grade networking.

Junos BSM (Broadband Subscriber Management)

Integrated subscriber management for ISPs. Handles RADIUS authentication, per-subscriber QoS policies, session monitoring, and CGNAT — all within the MX platform. Eliminates separate BNG and CGNAT appliances.

BGP FlowSpec (RFC 5575)

Real-time DDoS mitigation via BGP-distributed traffic filtering rules. When our NOC detects an attack, FlowSpec rules are pushed within seconds to filter or rate-limit attack traffic at line rate without impacting legitimate subscriber traffic.

In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU)

Software upgrades with no network downtime. MX platforms support ISSU — the routing engine upgrades independently of the forwarding plane, maintaining active BGP sessions and traffic forwarding throughout the process.
